july creative crush: kristan carroll of adelynSTONE

The creative world is full of talent, quirky style, and artists who never cease to amaze us. There are ladies who are spot on with innovative fashion, who write beautiful melodies, and whose paintings transport us to new places. We decided that we can't keep them all to ourselves. Each month, we'll feature our creative crush, a lady who inspires us with her work.

For July, we want to introduce the creative genius behind adelynSTONE, Kristan Carroll.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am Kristan; owner, blogger and creative mind behind adelynSTONE. Just a simple WAHM who migrated to Nashville 5 years ago from the suburbs of Detroit and in the process fulfilling my dream of living on the ocean. I have 3 littles- Adelyn, 4, Stone, 2 and Abel, 8 months and a baby daddy who was my middle school crush and is the love of my life.
2. What inspired you to start your brand?

Shortly after my first son was born, I was bit by the crafting bug. I taught myself how to sew & immersed myself in every craft blog I could find. My blog went from a personal blog to a crafty/lifestyle blog, documenting motherhood and my DIY adventures. adelynSTONE Etsy shop started out with sewn items, from little girl dresses to crayon rolls to tutu's. But, a few months in to my Etsy adventure, I made some Thank You cards for friends, and that was that, I was hooked on designing cards. Friends started making making comments about selling my cards and a fewcards turned into a dozen and then two dozen, etc... I started phasing out my sewn items and focusing on building adelynSTONE as a greeting card shop and a lifestyle blog.
3. Favorite thing about what you do?
In this world of Facebook, Twitter, Email and texts, there is still something so simple yet heartwarming about an actual handwritten note, being able to play a role in helping keep that art alive is humbling.

4. Who or what are you most inspired by?

People in general inspire me. The love between two people, the joking that goes on between friends, it's where I draw inspiration from. Daily lives, simple things that are said between two people that mean the most, it's what I try to represent in my cards.
5. What is the one thing in your closet that you can't live without?

Tank tops. I have hundreds of them and wear them daily; by themselves, layered or as an undershirt. I'm simple when it comes to fashion, give me a tank top, some jean shorts, a pair of chucks and I'm ready.

6. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
Bali. Ever since I read Eat, Pray, Love, I have wanted to visit this place. I have a friend who was blessed with a teaching job in Bali and her stories and pictures just reiterate my want/need to visit that spiritual place.

7. Favorite travel memory?

People watching on the streets of Nassau, Bahamas.

8. You can only take 3 things with you on a trip - what do you take?

DLSR, Laptop, pencil and notebook.
(the three things I need to document the experience)

9. Anything exciting planned for the rest of 2013?

WE'RE MOVING. Florida, here we come. This has been a long time coming, as it's always been my dream to live by the ocean. My parents and siblings, who are still in Michigan, will be moving too. The fact that my immediate family will all be together again is something I can not express with words!

After we are moved and settled, extending the adelynSTONE line will be in the works. I am in the process of turning some of my popular card designs into posters, some 2014 calendars are in the works and a few other exciting products are being tested. The blog will hopefully be back up and fully running, bursting with pretty photos and crafty inspirations.

 10. Your favorite piece in the Mexico Collection?

The Maggie necklace!!! It was actually the inspiration behind the infant mobile I made for my youngest.
